we were soldiers (2002)
This film is a good vietnam war movie if such a thing exists. What makes it so good? Mel Gibson is stellar as Hal Moore. The Vietnamese commander played by Duong Don did a really good job. Barry pepper is great as the reporter but that is not a shocker since he is such a good actor. The women in the film are what make this film unique and special because their performances make the film more powerful.
Two scenes that are worthy of mention in this review. The opening scene is important because it gives history of vientnam's conflict before the war with America. A scene that is powerful is the graduation because you can feel the emotion.
The extra features are interesting especially the deleted scenes.

1 timothy 6:3-10 (ch 6)
3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
I read these verses last night and was struck by them.
ps. if somebody tells you that you need to send a "love gift" for healing or for anything else, i hate to break it to you but your being lied to and led astray, plus their manipulating you. please the term "sucker" shouldn't describe you, but if you do this and don't stop that is what you are because when you come to me or somebody else crying about how you sent all this money to this or that person, and you didn't get wealthy or healed. I or somebody else doesn't want to have to say to you, "i told you so."

collateral (2004)
A film that I saw at the theater a long time ago is worthy of this blog. The opening music of collateral is great. Michael Mann directed this film with great touch. The cast is good and the locations are cool. Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx's interactions are great theatre. The one disappointment is lenny the dispatcher, I thought his acting was horrible. This movie has an exciting climax.
A few scenes, I find enjoyable. The coyote scene is unique and cool. During the scene with the drug king pin Jamie Foxx shows his acting chops. Finally, the fever scene is a climax that builds to the final climax.
This double disc edition of collateral has some good extras. The commentary on the first disc with Michael Mann is good. City of Night a documentary about the film is interesting. Finally, some rehearsal footage with Cruise and Foxx is entertaining.

Romans 6:11-14 (ch 6)
11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 6:11-14
i'm memorizing these verses because they apply to my life.

when beauty dies
when beauty dies
To god of lust, to god of pleasure.
Now build your sacrificial alter
Upon this lying in surrender.
Murder your innocence.
Lost within your lust you feed your hunger.
Once your in you're pulled straight under.
Addicted to flesh, nakedness your splendor.
Never to satisify this need you've acquired.
Justify how you call yourself clean, using this drug called pornography.
Why can't you just break free from pornography?
It tears me up inside, to watch the beauty die.
As the sacred act of sex is now thrown aside.
To be replaced with lust and greed, the virgin's body now bleeds:
From the wounds of a lie that sold that body so cheap.
Realize your worth.
Realize your worth, steer clear of the perverse, sex is not a game.
You'll be found dead in your shame.

home alone (1990)
This film is a holiday classic. The music by John Williams brings a smile to my face. As inept criminals Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are great. The gags are hilarious. Overall a very good film that overtime has become a classic.
A few scenes that are enjoyable to me. First, one of the funnier moments in the film is when the tarantula is put on marv's face. Second, we see the kevin's interaction with the south bend shovel slayer in the church, where stereotypes are broken. Finally, the santa clause scene is funny.
This dvd has so good features. This includes a commentary track with the director, Chris Columbus. There is a cool stunt feature. The documentary about the movie is interesting. Finally, there are fifteen deleted scenes the best is a very harry christmas.

ready for war
the day started out good, church was really cool. Then, i went out to eat with friends and somebody picked up the bill which was nice. then, we went to a benefit for a friend who has ovarian cancer. I use to work with her at giant, and now she goes to my church which is cool.
Then, later in the day i see that comcast lanc has added another "christian" channel one that is fairly legalistic in my opinion, jimmy swaggert's channel. I thought that guy was dead. Why do i think its legalistic because the one program they spent over 20 minutes talking about how "satanic" christian music is, apparently southern gospel music is the only christian music available. Plus, they have turned the bible into a commodity that they sell so their channel can "evangelize" the world. The grandson said this in effect during a sermon i watched for some reason. This made me sick. Wow, way to trust God for your finances, i'm so impressed your my heroe! I want to be just like you!!!!
then, i decided to take a hot soak so i could relax. I'm in the tub for about five minutes and i start to hear my mother scream horribly. So i jumped out of the tub, grabbed a towl and went into the living room to fight my father but he wasn't beating her up. Nope he was throwing the kitchen furniture around and screaming at her. that kind of killed my relaxation so i went into my room which turns into a prison when something like this happens and thought about depressing crap.
Then, later i went outside and sat at the one baseball dugout to think about life and how i will NEVER do that to my wife or kids. Then, i heard a "horny couple" which i realized was just birds talking to each other. then i walked around the athletic fields since i live behind a local high school. then, i went to bed.
I found out today that my father flipped out because my mother told him he couldn't clean out the cats box because i was in the bath room. He thinks that nobody can tell him what he can do, so he had one of his tantrums.

time stands still (extol)
time stands still
temptation
temptation
time stands still
the whisper in my ear
the spirit within
a struggle destined to fall
infested thoughts
spirit contracts
lust dominates
fallen once again
frustration accumulates
anger towards the fraud of the world
anger towards the lack of self control
condemnation, immediate repentance
how much can you take?
the disappointment of my deceit
pain
disobedience to your will
of my weaknesses i'm desperately aware
do i even dare
to repent again?
why (would you) endure the pain?
prisoner of filthy chains
unclean, unclean
