rain man (1988)

Rain Man is a great film.  Barry levinson directed it with skill.  The opening song "Iko Iko" is a great fit for the movie.  Tom Cruise is good as the import car salesman.  His girlfriend susanna played by Valeria Golino is an exceptional performance.  However, there is a reason why Hoffman won an oscar for playing Charlie Babbit, it is brilliant.  You can feel his fear when they go to the airport.  You can feel his anxiety when their at the house and he has to watch Judge Wapner.  You can see his naivety when their in Vegas and his child like joy driving the car.  The acting of everybody is superb.  This road/buddy film is unique because of the subject matter of autism.  The music by composer Hans Zimmer is awesome.

The dvd has three commentaries by various important people.  Besides that the extras on this dvd are worthless.

this is spinal tap (1984)

A review of this is spinal tap by rob reiner.  I hope you enjoy it, since it is a short review.  The character's are funny and interesting.  This movie is very funny and was written with excellence.

The best extra on the dvd is the commentary, since all the main "band members" talk about their "experiences." You have to listen to it to understand my meaning, plus its hilarious.

Philadelphia (1993)

Philadelphia is a good film.  The film starts out with a great song, "the streets of philadelphia."  Tak Fujimoto photography is good in this film.  Denzel Washington shows how stereotypes can be broken in this film.  Mary Steenburgen was good as a lawyer for Tom Hanks firm.  Hanks is great as the disposed lawyer who has AIDS.

This movie lacks one thing that would have made this a classic.  Hope.  Where the hell is it?  I guess it went on vacation.  If you think AIDS cannot be healed, you're an idiot!  I know I sound ignorant but one person has been healed through medicine (bone marrow transplant) and if God can part the red sea.  He surely can heal this disease, and he surely can help doctors find a cure.  There's always hope for AIDS.  When you lack hope during sickness that is what eventually leads to your destruction & death.

A couple scenes I should reenact with puppets.  The opening statement by denzel is powerful.  In addition, the opera scene is cool.

This dvd is a double disc edition with some good stuff on it.  The first disc has a commentary on it with jonathan demme.  The second disc has some good extras on it.  This includes trailers for the film, a league of their own, and sleepless in seattle.  The dvd has six deleted scenes which total 11:17.  This dvd has a great documentary called "One Foot on a Banana Peel, The Other Foot in the Grave" which gives AIDS victims a face and humanity.  Overall the extras included are great.

walking in the dark

boredom - the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest. first used in 1852

When I walk in the dark at night i embrace loneliness.  I walk, I walk, I walk until the dark surrounds me encompassing my very being but it doesn't inhabit my soul, since i'm a child of light.  I discovered something during my walks, that loneliness is just a lie sheltered by conceit.  That is why I find myself less and less outside at night because i don't need that poisonous crutch to make myself feel better. I find myself attempting to resist the lure of boredom which leads to the walking outside at night but its not easy.  Since i have close to 200 movies (who's counting?) but you can only watch so many films by yourself until you feel like your just watching a bunch of colors on your tv.  Plus when people your own age know you exist but seemingly just view you as someone to contact on facebook you realize that maybe you should contact them.  I get this attitude, "they should contact me, dammit!"  However, over the years i have realized this is would be nice but it has not been my experience.  For all I know they might think i have some sort of grudge against them which isn't the case and if it ever was i have gotten over it a long time ago. I fight boredom because boredom leads me to possibly doing stuff that is stupid.

dream series

two dreams that were similar

the first dream started out with me in a plane trying to get lift off in the city of montreal canada.  Then, it went to me on the plane and the plane splitting in half.  You would think that this would cause me to wake up but instead i had another perspective of the dream.  I was on the plane again, and i ran off it.  Then, later or maybe before i'm not sure, one of the stewardess flashed me but it wasn't really erotic if that makes sense, it was bizarre.  I think there were other things but i don't remember them.  I eventually woke up.

the second dream started out with me in a plane trying to get lift off in the city of pittsburgh pennsylvania.  Then, it went to the airport with a plane attached to a gate.  I was with my family (wife, kids) and i know its going to blow up, so my family and I run away from the gate. Next the plane exploded and the fire went through the gate and killed a bunch of people.  Then, I am at the gate when the plane explodes.  I think i had other perspectives but my mother knocked on my door and i woke up, but i just thought it was interesting that i wasn't waking up after being killed in both of these dreams.

spirit of revival

spirit of revival

Resurrection fall on us, Resurrection roll over us.  This is our reality, to pursue Your hand, righteousness.  You arm us with your strength.  We come trembling from our strongholds.  Understand, discern the spirits... This is our quest to overtake enemies taken back what's already ours... Our conquest... Holy Spirit, take this land and God please crush all hate overtake our hearts Lord let Your love pour down harder.  So let the rains pour down harder.  Let the rivers run wider.  Let the winds carry further.  Let the fire burn brighter.  Spirit of revival... fall.

2001 by jim cymbala

5/10

there are some problems in this book but i'm not here to bash an author because i disagree with some of his views. i will leave those feelings to myself.

I did like some of his emphasis in this book: prayer meetings, entertainment choices, and respecting leadership in your church which I try to do.

the awful orphan

1949 directed by chuck jones

"Acme Pet Store.  Your canary, Sir."

"There you are, little one. Gosh darn that old pet shop!  I distinctly told them to send me a canary and not a monster!" - porky pig

"What's the big idea?  I ordered a canary!  Not a dog!" - porky pig

"After all, dog is man's best friend, you know.  You should feel priviledged to own such an animal." - charlie dog

"I ordered a canary and I'm going to get a canary!  Dogs are out!" - porky pig

"Look, chum, you ain't got no dog, I ain't got no master.  It's inevitable we should get together.  Now listen, did you ever see a bird retrieve a dog?  Of course not!  Yet in me, you see one of the finest pointers that ever lived." - charlie dog

"Let's look at this thing in another light, chum.  Dogs is a comfort to have around.  You can't help but like it." - charlie dog

"That Mangy old trickster!" - porky pig

"Very well, then, there's only one thing left to do.  I shall end it all by throwing me self headlong into eternity!" - Charlie dog

"Looking for something, bub?" - charlie dog

"Boy, getting rid of that mutt sure made me work up an appetite." - porky pig

"Okay, you can stay.  And I'll tell you what I'll do.  I'll make you a nice dog coat." - porky pig

"Oh, goody!  I'm gonna have a wardrobe!" - charlie dog

"The places I've been and the things I've seen." - charlie dog

"Yeah?  Listen, you repulsive ape.  I'll save you the trip and come up and see you.  So say your prayers, chowder head, 'cause here I come!" - charlie dog

"All right, okay, I know when I'm licked.  I can take a hint.  You can stay.  You can be my pet, and I'll be your master.  I know my destiny.  I acquiesce." - porky pig

This is a great cartoon, that is very funny.
Favorite moment: when the dog kicks porky in the ass
