Philadelphia (1993)

Philadelphia is a good film.  The film starts out with a great song, "the streets of philadelphia."  Tak Fujimoto photography is good in this film.  Denzel Washington shows how stereotypes can be broken in this film.  Mary Steenburgen was good as a lawyer for Tom Hanks firm.  Hanks is great as the disposed lawyer who has AIDS.

This movie lacks one thing that would have made this a classic.  Hope.  Where the hell is it?  I guess it went on vacation.  If you think AIDS cannot be healed, you're an idiot!  I know I sound ignorant but one person has been healed through medicine (bone marrow transplant) and if God can part the red sea.  He surely can heal this disease, and he surely can help doctors find a cure.  There's always hope for AIDS.  When you lack hope during sickness that is what eventually leads to your destruction & death.

A couple scenes I should reenact with puppets.  The opening statement by denzel is powerful.  In addition, the opera scene is cool.

This dvd is a double disc edition with some good stuff on it.  The first disc has a commentary on it with jonathan demme.  The second disc has some good extras on it.  This includes trailers for the film, a league of their own, and sleepless in seattle.  The dvd has six deleted scenes which total 11:17.  This dvd has a great documentary called "One Foot on a Banana Peel, The Other Foot in the Grave" which gives AIDS victims a face and humanity.  Overall the extras included are great.

7/10
